Langkah Yang Harus Dilakukan Ketika Koneksi Internet Putus

Beautiful Day Blog | Langkah Yang Harus Dilakukan Ketika Koneksi Internet Putus | Apa yang anda rasakan ketika sedang asik-asiknya berselancar di dunia maya atau sedang download tiba tiba koneksi internet putus? jengkel, dongkol dan mencak-mencak pasti jadi pelampiasan, tapi gak usah pake banting komputer yaa ^_^. Alangkah baiknya anda lakukan langkah-langkah berikut ini :

Beautiful Day Blog | Cara Mendongkrak Ranking Website di Google |

Pada blog the-beautiful-day.blogspot.com

Smart business owners have been using press releases for a long time. They have shown how it is possible to help a business get promoted by using press releases. They can get a lot of attention for their products and services online and offline through press releases.

Many business owners are eerie about using press releases because they are unsure how to create them appropriately and how to distribute them in the proper manner for maximum effectiveness.

As long as they are created and used properly, press releases can be use as an effective marketing and SEO tool.

By figured out how to properly write a press release, it is possible drive a lot of traffic to your website and even build from links to your websites that can easily help increase your page rank.

In order to write an effective press release and use it to gain a lot of exposure for your product, website or service you will want to play your release out completely before even publishing it.

You will be wasting your time by constructing and planning a poor press release. You should make sure to target the message that your press release was intended for.

The first step to writing a press release is to figure out what you want to achieve from writing one.

Are you interested in creating brand awareness for your products or website?

Are you attempting to increase the number of subscribers to your e zine or newsletter?

Do you want to promote a product or service that was recently developed?

After figuring out the reason you want to write a press release, you can then begin writing the press release.

It is a good idea to start by doing a rough draft, read it and see how it flows. Does what you have written serve its purpose and it is formatted correctly?

Often times, press releases follow a particular format. Those people who are unsure how a press release should be formatted should check out the PR WEB site.

The most important part of any press release is the headline.

Using a bad headline could cause a person to skip by it without even reading it.

The headline is extremely important too because it is what the search engine is going to pick up on first. You should use the headline to your advantage since it is what gets listed first when indexed. You should list key points here, use keywords or a catchy headline that will be sure to grab the attention of your readers.

You should remember to keep your headline to a minimum because your headline will give more value to keywords that are not surrounded by irrelevant words. Planning is very important.

When trying to advertise a new website you’ll want to include the URL in the headline. When promoting product or services include keywords in the headline.

Many press release services will provide a summary box. You should write a memorable once paragraph of the press release in this box. Be sure to use some targeted keywords.

Be careful when using keywords to make sure that you’re not creating spam. Instead only use targeted keywords in the first and last paragraph. You can also use them without the entire press release. You can use them for about 2 5 saturation.

When promoting a website, it is a good it mention the website’s URL around three times to achieve the maximum benefit.

Many people will be asking hoe to make a great release. What should a good release be created with and how should it be constructed?

There are a number of example press releases that you can use to help construct your own press release.

You should examine each of these press release templates and use to them to find out which is the most effective.

After you have finished studying these examples and want to submit your own press release, you will want to figure out which are currently the most popularly used.

Here are a few of the very popular press release services. There services are very effective.

prweb

pressbox

webwire

24 7 press release

Most of the time you can submit a press release for free but there are a few services that will require you to pay a fee. When you pay to submit your press release you will be given the benefit of having your press release indexed much faster.

After its release, it is possible for Google to pick up your press release within a few hours. It should then begin showing up within the search engine’s search results within a few days or a week.

Having used bother services in the past, I have found that paying the smallest amount possible will give you the ability to view your stats online. This will also give you the opportunity to choose a number of different categories for your press release to be place in. This gives your press release a change for much larger coverage.

You can use press releases to easily and effectively promote your website or affiliate products when your press release is constructed and submitted properly.

You can use press releases to draw in a large number of targeted visitors while building links back to your website.

Should You Still Use Nofollow?

By Eric Enge, Search Engine Watch, Recent changes in the processing of the nofollow attribute have caused consternation and concern among many publishers. Let's talk about what has happened, and how you should adapt your SEO strategy accordingly.

A Little History

PageRank sculpting has been a hot topic since 2007. This was the idea that you could control, at a granular level, the flow of link juice in your Web site through the use of the nofollow attribute. The concept can be illustrated by this chart:

Nofollow Attribute 2007

In our example, Link 1 has the nofollow attribute on the link, and Link 2 and Link 3 don't. Google's stated position in 2007 (you can see it detailed here and here) was that this would result in Link 1 not passing (or consuming) any PageRank, and that PageRank getting redistributed through the other links in the page.

This is represented in our diagram by the percentage figures shown after the arrow. Link 1 passes no link juice, and links 2 and 3 pass half the passable link juice of the page each.

This touched off an era where many SEOs recommended PageRank sculpting, and lots of sites did it. Data pulled from Linkscape in March 2009 indicated that 3 percent of the links on the Web were nofollowed.

How This All Changed

At SMX Advanced 2009, Matt Cutts made statements about how this had been changed, and which he then clarified in his June 15 "PageRank Sculpting" post. Basically, Google's position appears to be that this is the impact of using nofollow on selected links:

Nofollow Attribute 2009

In this revised world, Link 1 still doesn't pass link juice, but the link juice it chooses not to pass is simply discarded. The juice passed through Links 2 and 3 isn't affected by whether you nofollow Link 1.

Impact of the Change

Based on this, it may make sense to remove any onsite nofollows you have. For example, if you nofollow all the links to your "About Us" page, the link juice in those links is discarded. If you let the links pass juice, your About Us page will be able to pass some of that juice back into the site through the links contained on it.

If you want to be cautious about this, carefully check out the results of removing the nofollows. Monitoring the impact of every SEO change you make is always a good idea.

While I believe that Google is serious about their new stance, theory (or position) and practice don't always align in the world of search. Also, while Google announced a new policy, Yahoo and Microsoft haven't commented on this.

More aggressive publishers will continue to sculpt by using older techniques for it. For example, you can use JavaScript that encodes the link so it isn't recognizable as a link by the search engines. Done aggressively, this will behave much the same way that nofollow did back in 2007 (because the search engine won't recognize the link as a link so no link juice is wasted on it).

This is pretty aggressive stuff though. It's a bit like hanging a flag on your site and saying "I am aggressively optimizing for search engines." It might fit well for smaller sites that believe their overall visibility is low (I still wouldn't recommend it for those sites), but sites that have a fair amount of public visibility should stay away from it.

Instead, use the natural link structure of your site to flow link juice (and your site visitors) where you want them to go. Creating the best possible user experience on your site is the best way for you to spend your time, as it will also make your site more attractive to potential linkers.

Can Crowd Sourcing Deliver Effective International SEO?

By Andy Atkins-Krüger, Search Engine Watch, LinkedIn caused a stir last month when it polled 12,000 of its users to see who would be interested in helping to translate its interface to bring in new users globally. One of the questions asked was what form of remuneration would be attractive -- but none of the options included any form of direct payment. A LinkedIn protest group was formed, topping 300 members.

It's good at least to know that the question has moved on from "Should we bother translating our site into local languages?" to "What's the best way?" But was LinkedIn simply trying to do this on the cheap?

And does it make sense, when search engines' organic results are your most important friend, to outsource your translation, and therefore your SEO, to a bunch of well-meaning volunteers?

Crowd sourcing evolved from the open source movement and is based on the idea that there's greater wisdom in crowds. This approach has been used by many, including Google, but is particularly popular with social networks, for the obvious reason that they have a database of engaged potential volunteers. Facebook and Plaxo have used 'community translation' before -- Facebook is said to have had their site translated into French in just 24 hours this way!

Crowd sourcing isn't all it seems, especially when it comes to international SEO.

Not Necessarily a Cheaper Alternative

There are hidden costs involved that make crowd sourcing more expensive than it initially appears. For example, Regina Bustamente, director of globalization at Plaxo, said they found it necessary to develop a "social translation portal," deploy moderators, and use professional translators to vet volunteer contributions when they increased the Plaxo interface to a total of 10 languages.

This meant that the costs were relatively high for the first language developed, but dropped significantly as the volume of languages increased. So, crowd sourcing, if it's appropriate, is more cost-effective for large-scale projects.

Wisdom of the Crowd

Groups of people can't translate a phrase simultaneously, so it has to be handled through an iterative process, with voting tools that allow certain terms to win over others. The people doing the translating mostly aren't professionals -- their wisdom comes from the collective. If the majority of people think a particular phrase is the most appropriate, then it most probably is.

Now what's good about crowd wisdom for translation is that all participants are generally qualified in one key area; they all speak their own language innately, having learned it at their mother's knee. Not so in SEO.

Here's the irony. Crowd wisdom already dominates SEO in another way -- just not through volunteers giving up their time for free or a slice of prestige.

By definition, if the crowd equals wisdom, then it would follow that the larger the crowd, the greater the wisdom, right? What bigger crowd than search engine users?

Keyword research looks at historical terms that people have previously used in search engines and makes the assumption they will do so again -- umpteen thousands of people. Then by definition, keywords have already been chosen by the wisest crowd, so they definitely should win over the slightly less wise, but very helpful and enthusiastic, volunteers.

International SEO Crowd-Sourced Success

The trick is connecting the wisdom of the keywords with the enthusiasm and language wisdom of the volunteers. The solution: source quality multilingual keyword research first, and then offer those keywords via the appropriate management portal.

The volunteers are offered a selection of keywords and choose the best fit from the list -- with the ability to override where an appropriate term simply isn't available or needs adapting. Even then, the platform should advise administrators what keyword was offered and rejected to enable decisions to be reversed or amended.

But that's just the start, because for most Web sites, you're also going to have to figure out how to do this on an ongoing basis, and it's a well known fact that volunteers come and go. It's likely to be tougher to get volunteers to participate in the ongoing maintenance of your project, unless they're truly fans.

International SEO isn't just about the words on the page, but it's the most important place to start. If you don't have relevant content in the target local language, there will be nothing to link to, nothing to host on a local server, and nothing to buy a local domain for. Yet most articles on this subject start with site architecture, and not with the product or narrative itself.

The world is changing, and for SEO folks it's getting much bigger by the minute -- witness the enormous growth of China. That causes a problem of scale for global marketers reaching new customers in new countries through their Web sites. Crowd sourcing enables you to reach more people more effectively through international SEO, but only if you meet certain conditions:

  • Your only motivation isn't cost and your project small.
  • Yours is a large multi-language project.
  • You can build the keyword research into the process for the best SEO effect.
  • Your site doesn't need frequent content updates.
  • Your volunteers are likely to be really engaged with your product or service.

There can be other spinoff benefits to crowd sourcing. Bustamente discovered that the volunteers who had participated in developing the site became advocates and promoters of their work. So goes the crowd, if the conditions and process are right.

Tips To Get More Traffic From Yahoo

With the new Yahoo! "Pay-For-Review" model it might be relatively easier for sites to get into the directory but
getting traffic from your listing is altogether a different story. And now with it's new annual recurring payment policy
you have to be extra careful while submitting your site for a review.

Here are 8 things to keep in mind while submitting your site to Yahoo! :

  • Selecting your domain name is the most vital step in getting a top ranking in Yahoo! and also other directories like Dmoz and Looksmart. Make sure your domain name is "Keyword Rich". You can make your domain keyword rich by simply inserting hyphens to separate words in your domain name. Yahoo! gives more relevance to sites with keywords in their domain name. Take our domain name for example: http://www.home-based-business-opportunities.com/ It is made up of 4 different high-in-demand keywords: "Home Based Business", "Home Business", "Home Business Opportunities", "Home Based Business Opportunities".While crafting your domain name, even you should try to keep your domain name such that it is made up of one, 2-4 words main or "parent" keyword; which in turn is made up of 2-4 high-in-demand "child" keywords. You may or may not get a top ranking for all your targeted keywords but you can be sure of getting one for your main or "parent" keyword (If you do everything else right). Even if you have to get a separate domain name for this purpose, GET IT! It is absolutely crucial for your ranking.
  • Sites which are placed higher in directory structure are given more relevance than sites which are placed lower or deeper. For example a site listed in category - B2B/Business_Opportunities will be given more relevance than a site listed in category - B2B/Business_Opportunities/Directories Here's a great tip to select the most trafficked category for your website... Once you have short-listed 2 or 3 category to place your site in to, check out the cost of Sponsor Listings of those categories. It's really simple. Visit the following URL: https://ecom.yahoo.com/fast/sponsor. Enter the URL of any website that is listed in your desired category (The URL should be same as it appears in Yahoo! and the category should be a commercial category). Note : Please note that Yahoo! accepts Sponsor Listings for only certain commercial categories and so this tip may or may not work for your category. You'll be asked for your Yahoo! ID. Once you submit the information, you'll be provided with the Sponsorship charges for that certain category. Repeat the process for your remaining short-listed categories. Now compare the prices of all your short-listed categories. Naturally the one with a higher price is the most trafficked one!

  • Yahoo! considers keywords in the directory structure while ranking. For example, if someone is searching for "Business Opportunities Directories", a web site listed in category - B2B/Business_Opportunities/Directories will be given more relevance than a web site listed in category - B2B/Business_Opportunities

  • Yahoo! DOES NOT spider websites to determine ranking. It ranks web sites based on keywords in domain name, title and description. So having META tags does not make any difference to your listing. DO NOT try to stuff as much keywords as possible in to the description. Yahoo! editors are notorious for cutting down the description if they sense even slightest hype. Try to avoid words such as - no.1, proven, turnkey, exciting etc. Also, make sure that the heading of your home page is same as the description you provided for your site. There should be no confusion in the mind of the editor reviewing your site.
  • Make sure your domain name and business name is the same since Yahoo! is known to use the business name as the title for your listing.
  • Make sure your website is "Content Rich". This is very critical for two reasons. One - to get your site accepted by Yahoo! and Second - to maintain and get a higher listing.Yahoo! determines the popularity of a website by the amount of time a visitor spends on your website. If a large no. of them hit the "back button" of their browser as soon as they hit your web site, you can kiss goodbye to your dreams of a possible higher listing. Once you get a lower listing, it can get very difficult to make up as visitors will not be able to find your site easily. note : Once a site gets accepted into the directory, Yahoo! ranks it based on the keyword popularity in domain name, title and description. But as time progresses, it determines the ranking based on the popularity of the website itself. We ignored this and our listing came down drastically within few days of getting accepted!

  • Before submitting your website, thoroughly research websites that rank higher for keywords you are targeting (Especially the "Most Popular" sites in the directory section). This will give you a rough idea of what to and what not to include in your website.

Top 10 Effective Ways to Boost Banner Click-through

Banner advertising is one of the most widely used marketing medium on the Internet. Though banner click-throughs have decreased to less than 1.0% in the past year, it is still possible to achieve reasonably good click-through of 3.0% and above.

Below are 10 effective steps that I have successfully used to help my clients boost click-throughs on their banner campaigns.

1. Employ Action Words

Use action words like "FREE" and "Click Here" in your banners. Offering something "FREE" in your message attracts the reader to click on your banner. Banners with "Click Here" teasers and similar action phrases also increase click-through.

2. Use Short and Punchy Headlines

A short and punchy banner headline makes a difference. Always load your headline with benefit statements - offer solutions to the challenges that your customers face. If you sell diet products, try "Lose 10 pounds in four weeks!". Work on a winning combination of text and graphics in your banner ad.

3. Animated Banners vs. Static Banners

Animated banners usually outperform their static counterparts by more than 100%. Surfers are more likely to notice banners that are animated. Example: If you have the words "Click Here" flashing in your banner, it will perform better than a static version.

4. Adopt Better Designs

Many of us are not graphic artists. We can create simple banners but it is hard to match the work of a professional graphic artist. You should engage a professional banner ad designer to create your banners. Expect to invest $80 per banner.

The standard sizes for banner ads are 400x40 pixels or 468x60 pixels. I recommend that you design a 468x60 banner. With the clutter of graphics on most webpages, a larger banner has a higher chance of getting noticed.

5. Try Trick Banners

These banners resemble Windows dialog boxes, scroll bars, submit buttons or blue-colored underlined hyperlinks. They attract you to click on the dialog boxes and scroll bars - which you are already accustomed to doing with the Windows operating system. If you use trick banners with short and punchy headlines, you can get click-throughs above 10.0%!

6. Reduce Your Banner File Sizes

Reduce your banner file size to less than 15k. The last thing a surfer wants is a slow-loading webpage. Most websites and banner exchanges do not allow excessively large banners.

Create a fast-loading banner right from the start. Optimize your banner file size through your graphic software or an online graphic optimizer.

7. Rotate Your Banners Regularly

Always have 2 or more banners to promote each product. A banner usually burns out after a surfer has seen it 3 times. They will ignore (if not hate) banners which they see repeatedly. If your click-through is steadily declining, then it is time to rotate your banners.

8. Target Your Banners

Place your banners on websites visited by your potential customers. If you promote gourmet coffees, place your banners on sites targeted at gourmet coffee drinkers. The quality of leads generated are higher, and more likely to result in sales.

Running your banners on targeted sites generally yield higher click-throughs and return-on-investment (ROI). You are reaching people who are most interested in what you have to offer. Of course, you can try websites with general audience if they generate substantial ROI.

9. Monitor Your Banners' Performance

Make it a point to check on your banners' performance every few days. Monitor the click-through rate. The click-through tells you how well your banner performs. Most banners fetch a click-through of between 0.8% to 2.0%. If your banner gets more than 2.0%, it is doing a pretty good job.

By monitoring your banners' performance, you can kill under-performing banners before they waste away your advertising dollars.

10. Do Your Mathematics

Do your mathematics for each banner advertising campaign. Calculate the cost-per-visitor, cost-per-sale and return-on-investment ratios.

For example: If a website charges you $20 per thousand impressions ($20/CPM), and you get a 2.0% click-through (20 visitors), your cost-per-visitor is $1.00 ($20 / 20 visitors).

And if 1 in every 10 visitors buys your product, your cost-per-sale is $10.00 ($20 / 2 sales).

So if each sale of your product produces a gross profit of $15, then your net profit per-sale will be $5.00 ($15 gross profit - $10 cost-per-sale).

Your return-on-investment (ROI), before non-marketing expenses, is 50.0% ($10.00 total net profits / $20 investment). This campaign is profitable!

Try advertising on different sites or using different banners. Find the winning combination(s) that can yield the highest ROI. Comparing Deal A which yields an ROI of 20% to Deal B that yields 60%, your advertising dollars work three times harder (and profitable) with Deal B!

Keyword Research

Discover the black magic of keyword research and search engine optimization and drive enormous traffic to your website! I’ll tell you a secret: it’s not magic, it’s definitely not black magic and it’s a lot simpler than you think, if you haven’t looked into it before. Keyword research is kind of science, but don’t be afraid, the first steps are as easy as using a search engine.

Read on and I’ll show you the basics of keyword research and get you started!

What is Keyword Research?

With keyword research, we’re trying to find and research actual search terms people enter into the search engines when conducting a search.

When you type something to a search engines, like Google, you are searching by using keywords, for example you might search “cute kitten pictures” – cute, kitten and pictures all being keywords that the search engine tries to find from websites to determine whether or not the web page is relevant to your search. Using a complicated process, the search engine determines which of the web pages it knows, is the most relevant for you and shows it as number one result.

Keyword research is done to find the keyword popularity for relevant keywords with a purpose of identifying the best keywords to target for high search engine rankings.

Keyword / Key Phrase: The word or phrase that a user enters into a search engine, used in searches trying to find a specific target.

Keyword Density: The more times that a given word, words or phrases appears on your page (within reason), the more weight that word is assigned by the search engine when that word matches a keyword search done by a search engine user.

Search engine. A web search engine examines websites on the Internet in order to provide a catalog of information contained on those websites. There are two primary types of search engines: search engines and search directories. Search engines, such as Google, send out robots or spiders to index your website, after which your site is evaluated and cataloged in the search engine. With directories, such as Mahalo, Yahoo and LookSmart, human editors review most websites material and catalog it in the directory.

How Keyword Research Can Help Your Blog or Website?

When you write your own content to a web page or a blog, the words in the text you write are crawled by the search engines and stored into their database. For your site to be found from a search engine it answers the “question” the searcher “asks” with the search phrase she uses. What this means to you, is that if you’re trying to answer a certain question, problem or just deliver news, and you think “how would I search to find this kind of information?” – you have found the essence of keyword research! When you combine the (key)words you think that people are searching for and target your text on that, you’re forming phrases.

As you start using tools to determine if your assumptions are correct or not, you will try to find the what people are actually using to search – which is through phrases (you don’t find very relevant results by just searching “cat” if your looking for “kitten pictures”, right?). If you have created a post about cute kitten pictures, you could check how often people search for using these phrases:

  • “cute kitten”
  • “cute kittens”
  • “cute kitten pictures”
  • “kitten pictures”
  • “kitten pics
  • “cat pics”
  • “cute cat”
  • “cute cat pictures”
  • “cat pictures”

Google is the most important search engine, so it makes sense to concentrate on that at the start. To do keyword research on Google, head to the Google Keyword Tool.

The keyword tool looks like this:

Google Keyword Tool

Google Keyword Tool

You will ad the keywords you want to search for in the text field (”Enter one keyword or phrase per line: “), enter the CAPTCHA (the weird looking letters are used to stop automated scripts to abuse the system) and hit “get keyword ideas”.

And you’ll get results for the keywords and phrases you entered and additional, related keyword ideas..

Google Keyword Research Results

Google Keyword Research Results

Google Keyword Tool and Keyword Ideas

Google Keyword Tool and Keyword Ideas

Here we see that on average, 5400 searches are made monthly for the phrase “cute kitten pictures”.

After finding the approximate search volumes, the other thing you can consider is how many sites the search engine finds with that term, to check “the competition” if you will.

Search Engine Results for Chosen Keywords

One target of keyword research is to find the best keywords for your article, blog post, or the whole website or blog. One strategy in this is to target High Search Volume – Low Competition keywords. Which means that a lot of people search with those keywords and phrases (over 1000 searches a month is “a lot” in this context), but there are not too many websites that pop-up in the search engine with that exact term. The difference between a keyword, phrase and exact match is very important..

For example, at the time of writing this, Google finds:

  • 736,000,000 pages for keyword cat
  • 24,500,000 pages for keyword kitten
  • 12,200,000 pages for keywords kitten pictures
  • 6,470,000 pages for keywords cute kitten pictures

..that’s a lot of pages, right?

So it would be very hard to get your content into the top results, so people would find it. Just think how often you go beyond the first page of search results – not very often right?

With Search Engine Optimization (SEO), we try to get our pages on the FIRST page. Against millions of pages it is not impossible, but it is very difficult. So we’re better of trying a different route at the beginning, and shoot for the exact matches and search for the phrases by placing quotes (e.g. “cute kitten pictures”) on the keywords we’re using, as most search engines value the exact match very high, so a page with exact match to the search term has higher chance to end up on top.

Let’s see how many results we get phrasing the keywords we used in the above example:

  • 83,600 for a phrase “kitten pictures”
  • 15,100 for a phrase “cute kitten pictures”

..sound a LOT more achievable right? Competing against 15000 pages is actually really easy, compared to competing with millions of pages.

If we look at the search volume we found from Google Keyword Tool for “cute kitten pictures”, we see that it was 5400. So on average, 5400 searches are made monthly for “cute kitten pictures” and there’s only 15000+ pages that are exact match for that term, which makes this a great search term for your to “target” with your cat blog. Note that this example is actually a bit tricky as it includes “pictures” and we didn’t take a look at the image results, but still provides you an example of what keyword research is about.

Keyword Research Tips

Injecting keywords into your product descriptions, titles and meta tags can help your products rank higher in search results. Today’s tip focuses on a unique technique for finding new or more valuable keywords so that your products will be found.

The Key to Keywords

The Google Keyword Tool is a great way to look at the words and phrases that are searched on Google. This can give you new ideas as to what words you’d like to emphasize in your product descriptions and titles or inject into your meta tags for a product. But, it’s relatively useless to you without qualifying the keyword results. In the end, we’re not looking for just any old keywords, but ones that bring in valuable buyer traffic. Let’s run through an example to learn how to use this tool and our 3-point Keyword Check to find the best keywords the Internet can provide.

Keywords Galore

Go ahead and point your browser to the Google Keyword Tool.

In this example we’re going to assume that we want to improve my search result performance for my Apple iPod Touch 8GB MP3 player. So far I’ve identified the basic keywords for my product and here they are: apple ipod, ipod touch, ipod, 8 gb, mp3 player. Basically, I’ve just broken down my product title into small bits of words and phrases that I assume people will be entering as search terms. In reality, that’s pretty effective, but we can use Google Keyword Tool to discover more popular keywords. Let’s do that now.

On the Keyword Tool page, enter ipod touch into the empty field labeled “Enter one keyword or phrase per line.” See Figure 1.

Now, you may need to enter in a CAPTCHA (the thing that makes sure you’re a human) field before proceeding, but what’s that’s properly entered, click on the Get Keyword Ideas button and a long list of keywords will return. What a treasure chest of data! Is there anything of interest to us in here?

User Behavior Reveals the Best Keywords

All the keywords in the world won’t make us rich. The trick is to find the ones that bring in the high quality buyer traffic. So, looking at our Google Keyword results, let’s first indentify which ones have value

One of the first things I noticed in the keyword results is the “itouch” keyword (see Figure 2). This one is baffling me, because I know the product I’m trying to sell very well and to my knowledge it has never been called an “itouch.” Technically speaking, it’s an iPod Touch. So what’s the deal Google? Is this keyword of any value to me? Let’s take a closer look at these keywords using our 3-point Keyword Check process.

Figure 2

Figure 2

Keyword Check 1: Always check Google for Keyword Relevancy

Go to Google.com, type in “itouch” (without quotes) and click on the Search button. Now we’re seeing what searchers of “itouch” will see. Take a look at the search results. Does it return the product your trying to market? If so, then we pass the relevancy keyword check. And, much to my surprise, “itouch” does indeed return results for the iPod Touch product. This is great news because it’s relevant and I didn’t have this keyword in my original list. On to the next keyword check…

Keyword Check 2: Check the Competition for Buyer Relevancy

What we know so far is that people are search for “itouch” on Google and they’re seeing a lot of iPod Touch results. But, we really don’t know if the people who are searching for “itouch” are looking to buy an iPod Touch. Let’s turn to our competition to see if we can find any hints as to whether or not this could be valuable.

Using a different tool, open the Google Search-based Keyword Tool in a new browser window. Type in your competitor’s URL in the Website field. Go ahead and type in http://www.walmart.com(See Figure 3). We’ll pretend we’re competing with them for iPod Touch sales. In the “With words or phrases” field, type in the original keyword we researched, “ipod touch” (without quotes). Click on the Find Keywords button. (Be patient, it may take awhile to load the data). What Google will tell us with this tool is what keywords Walmart.com is using and what pages are related to these keywords. If we happen to find that the “itouch” keyword appears, then we’ll know that this keyword is likely driving buyer traffic to their website.

Figure 3

Figure 3

Sure enough, you’ll see that “i touch 16gb” returns in the results (see Figure 4). While this isn’t an exact match, it does help confirm that it’s likely that some shoppers are searching for iPod Touch products using the “itouch” term. Also, Google tends to combine keyword phrases into groups. It’s likely that searchers of “itouch” and “i touch” fall into the “ipod touch” family of keywords. Who would have thought? You’ll also see that Google is showing that “i touch 16gb” is searched 190 times monthly. Click on the Magnify icon to see even more data. Don’t waste too much time here, we’ve got better things to do.

Figure 4

Figure 4

Now you can add “itouch” and/or “i touch” to your list of potentially valuable keywords. Run through more keyword options that you find in the in Google’s Keyword Tool. Research them thoroughly and add them to your list.

You’ll also need to find where the keywords fit. For example, “Apple itouch 16GB MP3 Player” will not work for a product title. First of all, that’s not the proper name and Apple would likely not be happy about that. Nor will it help customers who know the real name feel confident that they’re buying a legitimate Apple iPod Touch. So, this keyword would be best utilized in the meta tags, because consumers and Apple won’t see it, but Google will.

Keyword Check 3: Check Analytics for the Real Deal

Figure 5

Figure 5

Once you’ve put your new keywords in place, wait a couple of weeks to let Google’s keyword bots to crawl these new additions. Then, log into your Google Analytics account and view your Analytics report. Click on the Traffic Source link and then click on the Keywords link (see Figure 5). A list of keywords will appear in order of the number of visits per keyword. Review whether or not the new keywords you added brought in any visitors.

In the coming weeks will show you how to take a closer look and see if the keywords actually resulted in any purchases, too. This is the most important outcome. But for now, get to work on injecting potentially valuable keywords into your product titles, descriptions, meta tags and into the general copy of your storefront where possible.
