1. BALI

3. YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta is the main tour destination of the island of Java in Indonesia. Yogyakarta is known as the student city. Because in this place there is lot of school and colleges. Yogya is a city with outstanding historical and cultural heritage. Yogyakarta was the centre of the Mataram Dynasty (1575-1640), and until now the kraton (the sultan's palace) exists in its real functions. Also, Yogyakarta has numerous thousand-year-old temples as inheritances of the great ancient kingdoms, such as Borobudur temple established in the ninth century by the dynasty of Syailendra. More than the cultural heritages, Yogyakarta has beautiful natural panorama. The green rice fields cover the suburban areas with a background of the Merapi Mountain. The natural beaches can be easily found to the south of Yogyakarta.

Here the society lives in peace and has typical Javanese hospitality. Just try to go around the city by bike, pedicab, or horse cart; and you will find sincere smiles and warm greeting in every corner of the city.

4. TMII

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah or Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park is the best place to know all about Indonesia if you have a short visit to Jakarta. It would take someone a lifetime to visit every regions of the far-flung Indonesian archipelago (There are more than 17,000 islands). But at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in Jakarta you can visit the entire country in only a day or two. The park represents all Indonesia's 33 provinces and their real cultures and characteristics, reflected most strikingly in the exact regional architecture of the province.

You'll be surprised to know that this Indonesia miniature park is not small after all, as Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is HUGE, covering more than 165 hectares in size. This place takes all day and a fair bit of effort to visit. Take a car, otherwise you will be in for a long hot walk and be prepared for massive crowds. It is all too many for one day indeed. But it's also a nice peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of overcrowded Jakarta. Definitely one of the best attractions in Jakarta!

5. LAKE TOBA

It is located in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. Lake Toba lies in the northern part of Barisan Mountain Range, which is volcanic and traverses Sumatra Island from northwest to southeast as its backbone.
The laketrough is surrounded by precipitous cliffs 400-1,200 m high. Based on the topographic feature and the wide distribution of volcanic ejecta around the lake, some geologists and valcanologists have considered it to be a giant caldera or cauldron.
The water surface of L. Toba is 905 m above sea level and about 1,100 km2 wide. The total area of the lake, including the areas of Samosir and Paradapur Islands, amounts to 1,780 km2. The mountains around the lake are called Batak Highlands. The only draining river from L. Toba, the Asahan, flows southeastwards dissecting the gentle slopes of the pyroclastic plateau.

6. BOGOR

Bogor can be said as the suburb of Jakarta city located 60 kms south of Jakarta. The city has a very nice weather with very famous Botanical Garden called Bogor Botanical Garden. The park has more than 15.000 species from world wide. Bogor has also Taman Safari, as beautiful panorama as Bogor Botanical Garden, the park has become very popular sightseeing place for people from Jakarta and Bandung, or even foreign tourists. The area between Bogor and the Puncak Pass is believed to be the water reservoir of Jakarta city with it's forever green. Today dozen of villas are scattered around the area up to the Puncak which is become the most sought week-end overnight hide away. Puncak Pass is well known from Dutch era of 19th century as the place for tea estate with magnificent green plateau views. Today the tea plantation is still managed well by the company belong to the state called Perkebunan Enterprise. Here you will see the pick-up of young tea leaves, processing, and and even taste the original tea produced locally.

The area around Puncak which is often reffered as Puncak Pass is the mian route from Jakarta to Central and East Java. The route from Bandung to Jakarta via Bogor is the most beautiful natural view that one could enjoy in Java after natural beauties such as Mount Bromo and mount Ijen in East Java. This area is one of the highlight of what is called Java Overland tours starting from Jakarta to the eaterntip of Java island.

7. PAPUA

The Baliem Valley was once dubbed Shangri La and it is easy to see why. The Valley is incredibly lush and fertile and is surrounded on all sides by towering peaks of 2,500 to 3,000 metres. The fertility is such that the valley has been farmed for 9,000 years but it was only discovered by westerners in 1938! There are three mains tribes inhabiting the Baliem Valley: The Dani in the base, the Lani to the west and the Yali in the south-east. Each tribe has a distinct culture. One sure and interesting way to distinguish between the tribes is from the Koteka, or penis gourd, sported by the male members. The men of each tribe tend to the growing of the gourds with the three tribes each cultivating a different style. The Dani use a long, thin Koteka, the Lani sport a medium sized, wide cannon-like gourd, and the Yali wear the longest of all.

8. TANA TORAJA

The road from Makassar or Ujung Pandand to Toraja runs along the coast for about 130 km's and then hits the mountains. After the entrance to Tana Toraja you enter a majestic landscape with giant gray, granites and stones and blue mountains at a distance after passing the market village of Mebali. They form a sharp contrast with the lively green of the fertile, rain-fed terraces and the rusty read of the tropical laterite soil. This is Tana Toraja, one of the most splendid areas in Indonesia.

Tana Toraja has a specific and unique funeral ceremony which is called Rambu Solo. In Tana Toraja, dead body is not buried, but it is put in Tongkonan for several times, even can be more than ten years until the family have enough money to held the ceremony. After ceremony, the dead body is brought to the cave or to the wall of the mountain. The skulls show us that the dead body is not buried but just put on stone or ground, or put in the hole.The funeral festival season begins when the last rice has been harvested, usually in late June or July, and lasts through to September.

9. BANDUNG

10. KALIMANTAN ( BORNEO )

Kalimantan or Borneo is the third largest island in the world and is located at the centre of Maritime Southeast Asia. Administratively, this island is divided between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Indonesians refer to the island as "Kalimantan." However, for people outside of Indonesia, "Kalimantan" refers to the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. Malaysia's region of Borneo is called East Malaysia or Malaysian Borneo. The independent nation of Brunei occupies the remainder of the island. Brunei is the wealthiest nation in the island of Borneo.

There are over 30 Dayak sub-ethnic groups living in Borneo, making the population of this island one of the most varied of human social groups. The native ethnic groups are Dayak Austronesians and their languages belong to the Malayo-Polynesian language family. Some sub-ethnicities are now represented by only 30-100 individuals and are threatened with extinction. Much culture, language, ethnomusic and traditional knowledge has yet to be documented by anthropologists. Ancestral knowledge of ethnobotany and ethnozoology is useful in drug discovery (for example, bintangor plant for AIDS) or as future alternative food sources (such as sago starch for lactic acid production and sago maggots as a protein source).
